His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee (NOC), stated that the current circumstances witnessed by sport and various sectors warranted concerted efforts of all entities and individuals to get out of it in a good shape.

HH made these remarks while chairing the General Assembly Meetings of the NOC held via remote visual communication technology. Participants in the remote meeting included HE Humaid Al Qattami, 1st Vice President of the NOC and Chairman of the Executive Office; HE Mohammed Al Mahmoud, 2nd Vice President of the NOC; HE Mohammed bin Sulayem, Secretary-General of the NOC; and representatives of sports federations. The meeting authorized the President of the NOC to select, form and endorse the Sports Arbitration Council.

“Protecting the safety of the community is always a high priority for the NOC as it is in line with the directives and vision of our leaders to protect humans against diseases and epidemics. The NOC was quick to postpone various sports events indefinitely for the safety of participants. The step was taken out of the NOC’s social responsibility and keenness to diffuse the concept of preventive health culture. Actions taken consolidated other resolutions aimed at bolstering the UAE strategy of coping with the challenges underway,” he noted.

The President of the NOC hailed the steps taken by sports federations and entities and their endeavours to develop innovative means and solutions in support of the concerned health and preventive bodies and the interest of the community and the public.

The meeting endorsed the minutes of the 41st General Assembly Meeting, Olympic Report for 2018, Financial Report including the Final Account of 2018, Auditor’s Report, and Budget Estimate for 2019. The Meeting also endorsed the Financial Report and Final Account for 2019, Budget Estimate for 2020, and Budget Estimate for participation this year.

The meeting congratulated Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi on the formation of the Permanent Committee of the UAE Football Federation and the assigning of administrative posts to members. Congratulations were also extended to Dr Rima Al Hosani, Chairperson of the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport’s Commission at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The appointment is viewed as an administrative achievement for the UAE sport, especially as Al Hosani is also a member of the Medical Commission of the Asian Football Federation and has a strong presence in anti-doping efforts.

The meeting congratulated the Wrestling and Judo Federation on opening new premises including offices for the Board of Directors, high-class multi-purpose gym, especially as Phase II includes a shopping centre and a 4-star hotel for sports camps.
