The meeting featured discussions on mechanisms to expand the competitive sports base within UAE’s clubs, along with initiatives to increase the participation of private clubs in local competitions and address the challenges facing sports clubs. The meeting proposed development strategies, and areas for improvement, and explored ways to enhance players' awareness in key areas such as behaviour, physical health, and doping.
Moreover, the meeting reviewed avenues for collaboration in preparing studies, research, systems, and regulations in advancing the development of clubs in the UAE. It also discussed the possibility of launching a digital platform to house data on athletes registered in sports clubs, alongside the challenges faced by the Athletes Committee as the official representative body for athletes in the UAE.
During the meeting, His Excellency Khalaf Salem Al Wahidi was appointed as the spokesperson for the Olympic Clubs Committee, and His Excellency Yousef Mirza was tasked with designing a questionnaire to assess the challenges facing sports clubs. This questionnaire will be distributed to all clubs across the UAE, allowing players to address any inquiries.
The NOC Clubs Committee seeks to support UAE’s clubs by presenting initiatives, ideas, and proposals to the Board of Directors of the Olympic Committee. Its focus is on developing and refining the club structure in line with the goals of the Olympic movement. The committee also coordinates with sports councils and executive offices of local governments to explore technical and logistical support for clubs, while working closely with the Olympic Committee's Athletes Committee to review and study technical plans and programs that support athletes within clubs.
His Excellency Faris Mohammed Al Mutawa stressed the crucial role played by various committees within the NOC, noting their significant contributions in executing the Committee's programmes and initiatives. He noted that these efforts have a direct impact on the development of the Olympic movement in the UAE and enhance the overall Olympic efforts through the presence of specialised committees that address all key aspects.
Al Mutawa confirmed that the Clubs Committee represents a valuable addition to the work of the Olympic Committee. As the first practical initiative of its kind within the Committee, it holds a unique position, garnering significant attention from the International Olympic Committee. Its strength is derived from being an elected body with voting rights in the General Assembly meetings of the NOC.
Al Mutawa noted that the meeting with the Clubs Committee underscored the importance of establishing an integrated digital platform for athletes. This platform would provide detailed information on each athlete’s training history, physical and skill attributes, and health records, as well as the results and records achieved during their participation. Such a system would significantly enhance the ability of sports federations to access accurate and comprehensive profiles of each athlete, while also enabling technical teams to utilize this wealth of data for preparation and analysis.
His Excellency Nasser Mohammed Al Yamahi expressed his satisfaction with the productive meeting, noting the importance of the key topics discussed, which directly impact the sports sector. These discussions pave the way for studying challenges and devising effective solutions and mechanisms to support clubs and national talents across various sports disciplines.
"The Clubs Committee of NOC seeks to develop innovative and ambitious strategies to elevate the performance of athletes in all clubs across the UAE, while stressing the need to establish more private and institutional clubs to broaden the competitive sports base and encourage the professional practice of both individual and team sports, in line with the Sports Law and national objectives,” added Al Yamahi.
Al Yamahi further highlighted that the Clubs Committee will work on introducing dedicated programmes for national trainers across all sports, to empower them, enhance their skills and experiences, and qualify them to lead national teams in various disciplines..
