Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Vice President of the UAE National Olympic Committee (NOC), led the NOC delegation at the 27th General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), hosted in Cascais, Portugal (30 October to 1 November)as part of the ANOC meeting series.
The UAE NOC delegation attending the assembly also included His Excellency Faris Mohammed Al Mutawa, Secretary General of the UAE NOC, and His Excellency Major General Dr.Mohammed Al Mur, Member of the NOC Board of Directors.
The meeting opened by honouring several sports leaders who had recently passed away after making significant contributions to the Olympic movement. That was followed by a speech from Dr. Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), addressing delegations from various National Olympic Committees worldwide.
The assembly agenda covered several key topics, including approval of the minutes from the 26th ANOC General Assembly held in Seoul in 2022, the report of the ANOC President and Secretary General, and an update on the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games.
The meeting also reviewed a report from the Indonesian Olympic Committee, resolutions of the ANOC Executive Committee, a visual report from continental sports federations, and the final report from the Organising Committee of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, along with an update from the Organising Committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Participants also reviewed reports from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the International Testing Agency, and presentations from Deloitte and the Digital Leadership Centre, as well as an update on the ANOC TV Digital Acceleration Programme.
ANOC representatives further reviewed reports from ANOC committees and working groups, including updates from the Organising Committee of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, the Organising Committee for the fourth Youth Olympic Games in Dakar 2026, a report on new commercial opportunities for ANOC, a report from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), a sustainability report from ANOC, the ANOC Strategic Plan, and an update from the International World Games Association.
