Ahmed Bin Mohammed: UAE (Homeland of Tolerance) has set a perfect environment for a successful edition of the 4th National Sports Day
421 events spread happiness and positivity across the UAE

The fourth edition of the National Sports Day events kick-off today Thursday across the UAE. There are 421 registered events ranging from sporting and heritage to entertainment activities distributed over 139 different locations.
His Highness Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), and Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the National Sports Day Initiative, stressed that the UAE (Homeland of Tolerance) has the ideal and perfect environment for the success of all sporting and community events at all levels.
In a statement marking the launch of the 4th National Sports Day, HH said, “Year after year, the national sports day sets the highest values and promotes the concepts of friendship, cooperation amongst all community members via practising a variety of sports activities across the UAE. The event attracts broad-based participation from the public and private bodies and institutions. Under the slogan (Emirates UniteUs), this initiative has been terrific in bringing all cultures under one umbrella. It illustrates the harmony and coexistence between all segments of the community.
“Since His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched the initiative for the first time in 2015, everyone interacted with it and witnessed a substantial turnout, both in terms of organisation and participation. It reflected the value of sport and its importance to all age groups, especially with the participation of children, adults, people of determination in the last three editions of the event,” he continued.
“I would like to avail this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and their Highnesses, Supreme Council Members, Rulers of the Emirates and their Crown Princes, for their unlimited support of various initiatives aimed at serving humanity and providing all means of decent living for everyone in the community,” concluded HH.
His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, President of the Executive Office, said, “The National Sports Day is a special event that reflects the goals and objectives of the UAE leadership, which is always keen on providing all means of happiness amongst community members.
“The initiative has brought together all members of the community as well as governmental and private institutions. We, at the National Olympic Committee, are supportive of all activities and initiatives aimed at serving humans. However, the sport-free community is more vulnerable to diseases. Hence, the National Sports Day is a comprehensive event in which excludes no one, and sheds light on the traditional sports activities in particular,” said Al Qatami.
“Everyone is invited to participate in this event, especially taking into account that this community-based initiative has a national identity and reflects the cultural image that was associated with the UAE. This day comes in line with the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum that this day gas to encompass all sectors, bodies, institutions and individuals, under the slogan (Emirates Unite Us),” concluded Al Qatami.
His Excellency Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Second Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, stated that the fourth edition of the National Sports Day reflected the level of awareness and sports built in the Emirati community.
“Since the launch of the initiative, with the aim of promoting cohesion and showcasing values of humanity amongst all, including individuals and institutions, a great interest in participating in this unique sporting event was evident across the UAE. It is a major step forward towards building the humans, and a top priority for the wise leadership; which had made the UAE a pioneer in this field,” pointed Al Mahmoud.
His Excellency Talal Al Shanqeeti, Acting Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, said, “The National Sports Day initiative has become a world-class national and community event, especially as it bears many noble messages in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to dedicate a day for exercising sport under the slogan (Emirates Unite Us).
“This day paves the way for people of determination, adults, children, and families to practice the activities they like, which would bring happiness and positivity to them,” he said. “This year’s event is unique as it coincides with the Year of Tolerance. Also, the initiative has firmly established its goals in the past editions to boost cooperation and humanism in events that engage all community members in organising sporting, heritage, and community events,” concluded Al Shanqeeti.
“The initiative stems from the keenness of our wise leadership to invest in human beings as a top priority. It has been successful and reached out many hearts of those living in the UAE, be it citizens or residents, of whom are more than 200 nationalities,” said Dr Mai Al Jaber, Chairwoman of the Executive Team of the National Sports Day Initiative.
“The initiative has generated an impact in strengthening the sense of coherence and harmony within all spectrums of the community. Such a spirit is illustrated in an initiative undertaken by all entities across the UAE to participate positively and spread happiness amongst their participants through holding events around the clock,” she added.
Events in Abu Dhabi will be kicked off at Zayed Cricket Stadium, where tolerance will highlight the activities; which include bowling, archery, bowling, boxing, chess, cricket, fitness, cycling lessons, World Special Olympics events, mini-football with UAE national women’s team, table tennis with Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy for women’s sport, Taekwondo shows, Professional shows, horseback riding, pony rides, Irish football skills as well as judo, judo, muay tai and kickboxing.
There will be a wide variety of events in Dubai. Dubai Customs organises a friendly cricket match at Mina Rashid yard and a children’s chess workshop at the Department. The Department of Economic Development organizes rowing boats at the Dubai Creek (Festival City). The Health Authority also organizes a range of leisure activities for employees including a football match between DHA staffs and the staffs of Al Jalila Hospital. The Dubai Police will organise popular events, aerobics, shooting, hiking, football, zombies, karate, taekwondo, beach volleyball, tug of war, and cycling in addition to other accompanying events spots and musical performances. The Emirates Post Group also organises morning yoga for women and men, Staff, badminton and darts, as well as orienteering organised by the Military Sports Education Center at Dubai Creek Park.
Sharjah will organise a march from the front of Al Noor Mosque at the Corniche, Neymar Junior Five Fife Football Championship at Al Majaz Park and many schools will hold gymnastics, karate, basketball and handball.
The Sharjah Sports Council will also organise various events in cooperation with clubs and institutions. Al Majaz Park will host training and competitions for judo and taekwondo, as well as a special corner for children, a health education centre, workshops, self-defence games, a 10-km marathon, aerobics, CrossFit, power challenge, children cartoons with music, fun shooting, and falconry accessories.
Sharjah sporting events also include sports competitions at the complex of Al-Dhaid Municipality workers and hiking sport for senior citizens of Al-Dhaid Club. A sports festival will be held involving the participation of schools at Al-Battayeh, rowing contests, fly board shows at Al Khan Corniche.
In Fujairah, event will rubber boats at Fujairah International Marine Sports Club, hiking at the Dibba Park and Fujairah Corniche, tolerance events at Wadi Al Waree’aa protectorate, mountaineering at the Adventures Camp, jogging, tug of war, basketball and billiards at Fujairah Free Zone Authority, Shooting Challenge at Fujairah Shooting and Equestrian Club, Kayak and Beach Volleyball at Fujairah Corniche, and other children events.
Fujairah Corniche will witness the Fujairah Junior Speedboat Championship, sand skiing and tug of war, squash events and physical fitness challenges at the Fujairah Tennis Club, swimming in the gymnasium in Murabah and football and the fitness challenge at Fujairah Corniche Stadiums.
In Ajman, the General Directorate of Public Transport will hold a tennis event, and the Red Crescent will organise healthy walking activities. The Central Human Resources Department will hold football events, and the Ministry of Education, Ajman Free Zone, the Ministry of Health and Protection and Al-Ghadaj Center for Rehabilitation of People of Determination will hold multiple sports events.
Umm Al Quwain will host diverse sports competitions like a walk from the Science Park, women’s march, various sports competitions, a football tournament for schools, table tennis, volleyball, and sports seminars at the Municipality of Falaj Al Mualla. Events also include tug of war, speed walking, basketball events at the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, a lift-free day at Umm Al Quwain Medical Zone, yoga relaxation at the preventive medicine, and basketball and fast walking at Salama Health Center. Events include fishing, rowing, jet skiing, and sea walk at the Creek. The Umm Al Quwain Autism Center will organise events for the Puccini, basketball and football.
Ras Al Khaimah will hold several events organised by the Ministry of Health and Protection including competitions among patients at the Emirates Club, walking and medical examinations at Qawasmi Corniche, health exhibition and competitions for the zombies. The Ministry of Education also organises exercises using rings, as well as tennis and table tennis events at Hamra Village.
The General Directorate of Ras Al Khaimah Police gives a demonstration about Ju-Jitsu and holds an array of competitions including football, volleyball, tug of war, cricket and walking. RAK Civil Defense organises volleyball, CrossFit, and football. RAK Transport Authority holds basketball and jumping competition while The RAK Holy Quran Foundation will hold different activities and sports activities at Al-Rams Club.
Major General Dr Ahmed Nasser Al-Rayeesi, Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior, stressed the ministry’s keenness to actively participate in the National Sports Day through special events or activities organised by institutions, ministries and national bodies on this day in order to nurture a healthy environment and promote a healthy lifestyle.
“We believe that sport plays a major role in showcasing the unity of the society and that it is capable of enhancing the abilities of individuals and improving the ethics of sport, as well as highlighting its physical benefits and positive energy for all; which will contribute to the achievement of a healthy community. Through the Police Union, the Ministry is working on developing police sports and supporting athletes to enhance the performance of police competition in the UAE and support national teams.
“The active participation during this national sports day is in line with the directives of the police leadership and its vision to engage the community and hone the skills of the staffs of the Ministry through engaging them in such objective events and sports contests.”
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of the Interior will organises its activities as part of the National Sports Day and its sectors, leaders and teams will take part in events to be held across the UAE including sports competitions, cultural events, distribution of leaflets. It will also supervise events held by government entities as well as the private sector.
