NOC Executive Office hails success of Special Olympics

Azzah Suleiman appointed as Head of the Financial Resources and Marketing Committee

The Executive Office of the National Olympic Committee praised the success of the Special Olympics (Abu Dhabi 2019) hosted by the UAE over seven days. The event attracted the participation of 7500 athletes from 192 countries to compete in 24 individual and team sports. The Executive Office named Eng. Azzah Suleiman as Head of the Financial Resources and Marketing Committee of the NOC.

The Executive Office made a statement to this effect following a meeting held a today at the premises of the NOC in Dubai. The meeting was chaired by HE Humaid Al Qattami, VP of the NOC. Attendees included HE Talal Al Shinqeeti, Acting Secretary General of the NOC, and Members of the Office: Sheikh Eng. Salem bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Major General Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi, Major General (R) Ismail Al-Gergawi, Mohammed Bin Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Advisor Ahmed Al Kamali, Brigadier General Ahmed Hamdan Al Zayoodi and Eng. Azza Suleiman. The meeting was also attended by Mohammed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the NOC, and Ahmad Al Tayeb, Director of Technical and Sports Affairs at the National Olympic Committee.

Before the start of the session, attendees voiced their thanks and appreciation to HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, President of the NOC, for his unlimited support and follow-up of athletes in various events. They also thanked the directives of HH for lending full support to people of determination to ensure the success of their events highlighted by the Special Olympics – Abu Dhabi 2019.

Members stressed that the attention of the UAE leadership to the people of determination had showcased the profile of the UAE as a global destination for hosting and organising mega sporting as well as humanitarian events. They praised the huge and continuous support of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, which have had a massive implication on the success of this humanitarian event, classified as the biggest worldwide. The event reflected the importance of integrating this category in various community events, as it is bound to bring benefits back to them in terms of psychological, physical and mental perspectives. It is an ambition to qualify these champs and hone their skills and abilities to communicate through sports events of such a scale bringing together people of determination from all over the world.

The audience expressed thanks and appreciation to HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, for his generous patronage of the Flame of Hope which promoted the noble humanitarian event across the UAE.

The Executive Office also congratulated the Football Federation following the success of our national beach soccer team in winning the Asian Silver Medal and qualifying for the World Cup in Paraguay.

The meeting reviewed the report of the 4th National Sports Day; which hosted 421 sports events at 139 sites under the theme: Emirates Unite Us to promote the spirit of coexistence and love in the community. The unique event covered all the UAE offering sport for all, thus adding to the efforts of building human and supporting the leading model of the UAE in this regard.

The meeting also reviewed the report of the Emirati Children Day held by the NOC in collaboration with the Government of Fujairah, featuring the participation of 650 students. The event succeeded in raising the profile of our sons and daughters as they are future generations. The meeting praised the unique initiative, which was launched by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, President of the General Women’s Union, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, as part of the National Strategy for Motherhood and Childhood 2017-2020.
